Идиомы -это устойчивые выражения, которые есть в любом языке. Именно они делают нашу речь красочной и интересной для собеседника. Но одновременно и сложной для понимания, если собеседник не знаком с социокультурными реалиями данного языка. К примеру в английском языке насчитывается около 25000 идиоматических выражений. Вот почему и нужно при обучению английскому языку уделять особое внимание изучению идиом. Особенно часто идиомы используются в разговорной речи, однако и в других пластах языка их тоже немало.

Сейчас я хочу представить вашему вниманию тест с идиомами о животных, но перед тем, как вы его начнете проходить, я хочу представить вам идиомы, знание которых будет проверяться в тесте.

kill two birds with one stone - to achieve two things at the same time with one action

let the cat out of the bag - to tell a secret carelessly or by mistake. 
I wanted it to be a surprise, but my sister let the cat out of the bag.

flog a dead horse (British English, informal) - to waste your effort by trying to do something that is no longer possible

till the cows come home (informal) - for a very long time; for ever

donkey's years (British English, informal) - a very long time.
We've known each other for donkey's years.
I met him once, but that was donkey's years ago.


go to the dogs (informal) - to get into a very bad state
This firm's gone to the dogs since the new management took over.

cook somebody's goose (informal) -  to ruin somebody's chances of success

get somebody's goat (informal) - to annoy somebody very much

take the bull by the horns - to face a difficult or dangerous situation directly and with courage

there are plenty more fish in the sea - there are many other people or things that are as good as the one somebody has failed to get

make a pig of oneself - eat too much

the rat race (disapproving) - the way of life of people living and working in a large city where people compete in an aggressive way with each other in order to be more successful, earn more money, etc

It's very easy to get caught up in the rat race

the lion's share (of something) (British English) - the largest or best part of something when it is divided


have kittens (British English, informal) - to be very anxious, angry or upset about something
